Project Challenges:
- Cost-effective energy supply for a new hospital building in Switzerland
- Reliable heating without the use of fossil fuels
- Regeneration of geothermal probes
Solution with Sunmaxx PVT:
- Electricity and heat generation on the same (roof) surface using PVT
- PVT as a 100% fossil-free heat source for the brine heat pump
- Feeding surplus heat generated by PVT during the summer months into the ground
This Is How Sustainable Heating Planning Works: Climate-Neutral Clinic Building in Arlesheim, Switzerland
This new hospital building in the Swiss canton of Basel-Land has been relying on renewable energy from the start. This is made possible by 294 Sunmaxx PVT modules, which generate both electricity and heat. Whilst the thermal energy, in combination with ground probes, serves as the source for a brine-water heat pump, the solar electricity generated powers the building’s electrical appliances. A sustainable energy solution that conserves resources, operates quietly and offers long-term economic stability and security.

A Flagship Project for Sustainable Construction with Renewable Energy Supply.
The use of untreated timber in construction ensures an excellent environmental footprint. This is because timber stores CO₂, is a renewable resource and enables resource-efficient building with low primary energy consumption. Furthermore, the solar power generated by the PVT modules covers the total operating hours of the building services systems. The surplus heat generated by the PVT modules, particularly in summer, is fed into the ground, thereby recharging the geothermal probes.
