- Climate-neutral heat supply: The ADMEDIA Group is converting its first two rehabilitation and physiotherapy centers in Plauen and Chemnitz to a fully emissions-free energy supply. Instead of conventional photovoltaics, 1,200 Sunmaxx PVT modules are now being installed to provide both electricity and heat.
- Holistic energy system: In combination with geothermal boreholes, brine-to-water heat pumps, and intelligent source management, a cutting-edge, emission-free system is being created.
- Efficient heating and cooling in one: With Sunmaxx PVT modules, the rehabilitation and physiotherapy centers will not only be heated, but will also benefit from active and passive cooling in summer – an exemplary project for the heat transition in the healthcare sector.
Chemnitz/Dresden, 02.12.2025: The ADMEDIA Group, with locations in Chemnitz, Plauen, Freiberg, and Waldenburg, is taking a major step toward energy independence and climate neutrality. The first of its four locations will soon be supplied entirely with emissions-free heat and electricity. To achieve this, the existing photovoltaic system is being replaced by photovoltaic-thermal hybrid modules (PVT) from Sunmaxx: technology that generates electricity and heat simultaneously.
The project is being implemented by Consulting Janssen GmbH from Lower Saxony. Managing Director Ralf Janssen explains: “By combining PVT and geothermal energy, we harness the energy waiting on our rooftops and in the ground. Decarbonization is possible everywhere – even in energy-intensive buildings like rehabilitation centers. Switching now pays off: the investment offers maximum predictability of future energy costs and long-term security.”
“By using these modules, we can significantly increase energy efficiency,” adds Prof. Dr.-Ing. Daniel John of WP engineering, the responsible planner and key contact for technical building equipment and energy integration.
Alexander Meyer, construction and project manager at ADMEDIA, adds: “The rehabilitation center in Plauen – one of the four locations soon to be decarbonized – includes its own therapy pool with high heat demand. Thanks to the combination of PVT modules, geothermal probes, brine-to-water heat pumps, and battery storage, a holistic, emission-free energy system is emerging. It not only supplies the building with climate-friendly heat but also enables passive and active cooling during summer, showcasing modern sector coupling at its best.”
The conversion will replace fossil fuels entirely. Modern source management ensures highly efficient and reliable operation throughout the year. This provides the operator with maximum independence from fluctuating heating costs and ensures low, predictable energy expenses over the long term.
“This project demonstrates how straightforward the heat transition can be when existing infrastructure is used intelligently and paired with state-of-the-art technology,” says Dr. Wilhelm Stein, CEO of Sunmaxx. “The ADMEDIA Group is sending an important signal for sustainable healthcare and energy independence.”
