Vollständiger Umstieg auf fossilfreies Heizen: klimaneutrale Energieversorgung für ein Familienhotel in alpiner Lage

Project Challenges:

  • Stable heat supply at high altitudes, coverage of peak loads
  • Snowy region, high load capacity and shading PV section
  • Economical energy supply for 3,000 m² of bathing facilities and other buildings

Solution with Sunmaxx PVT:

  • Highly efficient use of roof space with PVT: Electricity and heat from a single module
  • Snow melting from the module surface through simple heating circuit reversal
  • Lowest energy expenses thanks to renewables for highly economical operation all-year round

Complete Shift to Fossil-Free Heating: Climate-Neutral Energy Supply for a Family Hotel in an Alpine Location

At 1,200 meters above sea level, where long winters and heavy snowfall are part of everyday life, the owner-managed Allgäuer Berghof is converting its heating system entirely to renewable energy. To supply heat for more than 250 beds, a 3,000-square-meter water world as well as riding and ice arenas, the hotel consistently relies on CO₂-neutral and cost-efficient heating with PVT technology and geothermal energy. Fossil fuels are being completely phased out. With this step, the hotel clearly positions itself as a pioneer of sustainable tourism while securing long-term, predictable and low energy costs. The project demonstrates that comfort, economic efficiency and climate protection can go hand in hand, even under challenging conditions.

Snow Melting Included: PVT as a Guarantee for High Energy Yields, Even in Alpine Winters.

The conditions for this project are demanding. Heat and power supply must remain reliable even during very low temperatures, high snow loads and periods with little sunshine. At the same time, significant peak loads have to be covered: space heating and hot water for the hotel and its water world, cooling during summer months, and removing snow from the solar module surfaces to maintain high energy yields in winter. Thanks to a simple heating-circuit reversal, PVT modules can be defrosted with minimal energy input, allowing the system to remain efficient and fully operational even during heavy snowfall – a clear advantage over conventional PV systems.
