Roof of highly innovative residential building in Berlin using Sunmaxx PVT

One of Germany’s Most Innovative Residential Buildings Is Being Built in Berlin-Neukölln – Powered by PVT Technology from Sunmaxx

• A residential building in Berlin-Neukölln is setting new standards for sustainable living. The basis of its fully renewable energy system consists of 160 photovoltaic-thermal hybrid (PVT) modules from Sunmaxx.
• The combination of PVT and heat pump technology integrates heat and electricity generation into a single system – efficient, quiet, and nearly ener-gy self-sufficient.
• The project serves as a model for how renewable energy concepts can be successfully implemented at neighborhood level while reducing ancillary housing costs.

Berlin/Dresden, 27.01.2026: In Berlin-Neukölln, a residential building is taking shape that is already regarded as a true lighthouse project for sustainable construction. The new development by Berlinovo Immobilien Gesellschaft mbH at Dröpkeweg 11 is being described as one of Germany’s most innovative residential buildings – a showcase of how future-oriented living can work in practice.

The heart of the energy concept are 160 PVT hybrid modules from Sunmaxx, which generate electricity and heat at the same time. The modules supply a brine-to-water heat pump that efficiently heats the building in winter. As a result, the system operates entirely on renewable energy, enabling a nearly autonomous, economical, sustainable, and noiseless operation. By integrating renewable energy concepts using PVT technology, ancillary housing costs remain sustainably low over the long term. The innovative heating system is being implemented by Sunmaxx’s specialist partner, SGT GmbH, subsidiary company of MS Bau & Sanierung.

Dr. Wilhelm Stein, Managing Director of Sunmaxx, explains: “For an innovation project of this type, PVT technology is perfectly suited. Our hybrid modules provide the basis for 100% renewable heating and cooling, as well as additional electricity generation. This makes it possible to operate buildings almost autonomously, freeing owners and tenants from external influences. At the same time, everyone benefits from low ancillary housing costs, as renewable energies are among the most cost-effective forms of energy on the market.”

Jörg Lieschke, Project Manager at SGT GmbH (MS Bau & Sanierung), adds: “It is time for PVT to become the new standard in building energy supply. The technology offers numerous advantages: it uses ambient air, similar to an air-to-water heat pump, while also harvesting heat and electricity from solar radiation. This significantly increases overall system efficiency. Especially in cities like Berlin, the fact that PVT systems do not require an outdoor unit is a major advantage, as noise emissions will not be an issue anymore. Sunmaxx modules also stand out for their ease of installation and competitive pricing. Two forms of energy in one system – you simply can’t get more efficiency per square meter.”

Enrique Sanz Segura, Project Manager Construction at Berlinovo Immobilien Gesellschaft mbH, states: “Our project at Dröpkeweg 11 clearly demonstrates that renewable energy concepts work at neighborhood scale. By using PVT technology, we ensure the lowest possible ecological footprint from the outset while securing economically efficient operation over many years.”

Through the intelligent integration of heat pump technology and storage systems, this project already illustrates how the energy transition in urban residential construction can succeed today: climate protection, economic efficiency, and living comfort combined in a single solution.
