Project Challenges:
- Decarbonization of electricity and heat supply in urban areas
- Geothermal energy as a primary heat source, several geothermal probes in a comparatively small space (geothermal probe field)
- Pitched roof with 40 ° inclination
Solution with Sunmaxx PVT:
- Use of the roof area of the Zehntscheuer as a supplier of solar power and source heat
- Regeneration of the geothermal probe field using the surplus heat generated by PVT modules during the summer months
Historic Event Location as an Innovative Energy Supplier: Cold Local Heating with PVT and Geothermal Probes.
A multivalent low-temperature grid in the historic centre of Echterdingen: In combination with a geothermal probe field, 156 Sunmaxx hybrid modules enable climate-friendly heating and cooling – at top energy prices. Unlike conventional solar thermal systems, the PX-1 modules supply electricity and heat at the same time. The low-temperature heat of around 20 to 30 °C generated in this way serves as source heat for several heat pumps and is ideal for geothermal probe regeneration.

Cold Local Heating with PVT – a Lighthouse Project in Municipal Heat Supply.
The combination of PVT and geothermal probes enables a sustainable, cost-effective energy supply in municipal and industrial environments. Together with geothermal energy and heat pumps, Sunmaxx hybrid modules assist in covering the heating requirements of the entire historic town centre of Echterdingen. By combining electricity and heat generation in just one module, roof surfaces can be used four times more efficiently – a huge advantage over conventional PV and solar thermal systems, especially in densely built-up areas.
