Project Challenges:
- Geothermal probe drilling not possible due to the cost factor
- Too little area for ground collectors, not sufficient for the building's heating requirements
Solution with Sunmaxx PVT:
- Combined production of electricity and source heat via roof surface
- Transmission of excess heat from summer months into the ground, storage for the winter period
Sunmaxx Pvt in Combination with PV and Horizontal Collectors: Minimum Space Requirement, Maximum Benefit.
PVT or geothermal energy? We ask: Why not both? The combination of PVT and geothermal systems results in valuable synergies. In this project, the plot area was not large enough to install enough ground collectors to meet the house’s heating requirements. The solution: provide part of the source heat via PVT modules, which also supply electricity in addition to heat. The excess heat generated in summer is transferred to the ground via the collectors and stored there for the winter. Thanks to the high efficiency of our PVT modules, the area of horizontal collectors originally required could be reduced by around 50 percent.

Plan a for Geothermal Energy: Reducing Collector and Drilling Costs with PVT
Not every plot of land is suitable for ground collectors and not every construction area is suitable for boreholes. In addition, geothermal energy is one of the biggest cost factors when implementing new heating systems. With PVT modules from Sunmaxx, the building owner obtains the source heat required for his brine heat pump directly from the roof and also produces climate-neutral electricity. The result: sustainable energy generation at a cost of less than 10 cents per kilowatt hour and a payback period of just 5 to 8 years.
