Project Challenges:
- Very old building with first documentary mention in 950
- Monument protection
- No use of geothermal energy possible on the site
- Heating of residential and commercial areas
Solution with Sunmaxx PVT:
- Sunmaxx PVT modules with low weight (lower load capacity than comparable products)
- Combined electricity and heat yield: roof utilization with high area efficiency
- PVT as direct and sole heat source for brine heat pump
Widely Independent from External Energy Supplies: Sonnenschloss Walbeck – A PVT Project That Lives up to Its Name.
PVT only worthwhile in new builds? Not at all – the Sonnenschloss (“Sun Castle”) in Walbeck does proof it. First mentioned in a document in 950, the Sonnenschloss is now one of the oldest buildings ever to be equipped with a solar system. The electricity and heat generation is almost self-sufficient and is subject to the highest sustainability standards. The castle is heated using heat pumps; the source heat required for this is supplied by 21 photovoltaic-thermal hybrid modules from Sunmaxx.
Project Details:
Sustainably Produced Heat and Electricity for Residential and Commercial Units
As part of the modernization of his heating system, the owner of the castle opted for a brine heat pump. This supplies an area of around 300 square meters, including residential and commercial units, with highly efficient heat all year round. The heat pump is supported by 21 Sunmaxx PVT hybrid modules and a water cistern that acts as a thermal storage tank.
